The viewfinder of a camera is like an open window to the secrets and wonders of the natural world. Every click of the shutter offers for me a new experience, a different sight, and a greater appreciation for the world which we live, and the creatures that inhabit it along with us.
I became seriously interested in photography almost twenty years ago. My first SLR camera was a Canon T-50 point and shoot. Although its application was extremely limited it began for me a journey into a world that I had previously not given much thought. I graduated to an AE-1P and began using it solely on manual mode. Eventually I traded my Canon for a Nikon and have been burning film ever since.
I love taking photographs of wildlife. Anything from a bug to a bear is fair game. Capturing the animal in its natural element, performing as it naturally should is my idea of the ultimate shot. Although I much prefer shooting the animal in the wild, I am not opposed to the occasional use of captive subjects.
Currently my primary equipment includes a Nikon N90s body and the Tokina 150-500mm 5.6 lens. I also have an assortment of smaller lenses, a back-up camera body, extension tubes and a variety of other accessories. I shoot Fuji Velvia 50 pushed one stop almost exclusively. Occasionally I will revert to Provia 100 when I need to push for additional speed. My wife, Sue, has become the digital queen and occasionally allows me to play with her Canon Digital Rebel.
I fear greatly for the state of the environment and hope that in future there will continue to be wild things and wild places worthy of the art of digital imagery and film photography.
